PRACTICAL EXERCISES

Week 1 (Exercise 1 - Quantify & Visualise Data)
For the first week of class, we were instructed by Mr. Shamsul to quantify / count our
chosen items and arrange the objects into a presentable layout or chart. Our items
could be bags of M&M's, legos, a jar of buttons or coins. I chose 2 different bags of
M&M's the crispy and the milk one.

I arranged the M&M's in terms of their colour and amount, from the least to the most.

After brainstorming ideas I had in my head, I decided to arrange it like a Column Chart.

I decided to change the 'Chocolate' heading to 'M&M's' to make it clearer for viewers to
know that these are M&M's at a straight glance. I also added the amount of M&M's
used in total so that viewers won't have to count them one by one. In addition, I have
also included relevant information below the Column Chart, the M&M's are separated
by colour from the least amount to the most amount. I have also added information
that separates the M&M's even more, as I'm using 2 different bags of M&M's for this
exercise, I have also included how many crispy and milk are in a colour. For example,
there are 7 Yellow M&M's, 4 of which are crispy and 5 of which are milk, there are 8
Orange M&M's, 5 of which are crispy and 3 of it are milk and so on.

Week 2 (Exercise 2 - L.A.T.C.H Infographic)
For this week's exercise, Mr Shamsul had instructed us to create an infographic using
the L.A.T.C.H principals. We may use the suggested compiled data (Pokedex / FFXIV
Bestiary / Dinosaur) or we can pick any topic we'd like.

             Requirements:
            1. Must utilize the L.A.T.C.H principals (Minimum 4)
            2. Size Resolution : 1240 x 1750 Pixels or 2048 x 2048 Pixels

After much thought, I decided to create an infographic on the Top 5 Most Popular Cat
Breeds based on the data I found on the Forbes Top 20 Most Popular Cat Breeds. Since
20 was far too many cats, I decided to choose 5 of my favourites out of the 20. The 5 I
chose were: Bengal, British Shorthair, Ragdoll, Siamese and the Sphynx. To make it
easier for me to create the infographic, I arranged all the information I gathered into a
            table as shown below.

Before I started on my illustrations on the cats, I gathered some reference images to
make it look as accurate as possible.

Figure 2.10 L.A.T.C.H Infographic Poster Before Feedback

After Mr Shamsul reviewed my work, he had recommended I made some changes in the
            poster.

             Things to Change:
              - All the fonts don't match the poster
              - The sphynx blends into the background too much
              - Should make the pointed area of the map a different colour, easier to see
              - Background is slightly plain, should add some decorations

             Changes Made:
              - Lightened the background
              - Changed the layout of the heading & all fonts
              - Changed the map colour & darkened where the pointed areas are
              - Darkened the outline of the sphynx
              - Added some star decoration around to not make the poster look empty
